One Room Challenge Week 2 - Sh**ts Gettin Real!
It is week 2 of the ORC and man is time flying!
Ive been doing a whole lot of “prepping” and conceptualizing lol. Now its time to roll up the sleeves and put some elbow grease into it.
First lets do a little refresh of our moodboard!
I always think of design as a 3D puzzle! Each individual element contributes to a piece of the puzzle. A puzzle piece can be anything from a mood/era/style to architectural details/illusion/texture. It is important to have a good mix of elements in order for the puzzle to feel complete and tight. Upon entering, the eye should dance through all the different elements in the room , flowing effortlessly like the perfect song. I know it sounds poetic, but that is actually true design.
A design can have multiple inspirations: a song, a favorite travel spot, a color or mood, and the list goes on and on. The truth is, your home and specifically your bedroom is a true reflection of who you are to the core. As a couple, we have experienced life and have shared memories which will be the inspiration of this space. In fact we are the result of our love for traveling. We met during vacation and continued a long distance relationship from NY and Puerto Rico. So many of our memories stem from our trips around the world. This is the core basis of my design.
The black and white wall mural will most likely be on the East wall (headboard wall ) and creep into the adjacent walls and ceiling. Originally, I planned on muraling all four walls, but I have deciding it will be too busy for such a small space. The tropical motif will feel like nature is hugging our bed, and the idea of this sounds cozy. The North wall has 2 side by side windows and a slanted low ceiling. These windows will be treated as one unit, with a painted arch on top (on the slanted ceiling). The sheer linens will flank the new “large window”. There will also be a woven wood faux roman shade across the total width, again aiding in the idea that this is one large beautiful window. I have been reasearching DIY faux woven romans, and im still determining what product to use, could be reed fencing, placemats etc. I will be sure to provide all the details of this DIY. All the mouldings will be repainted in black. The two doors on the opposite wall be painted black, have black arches above, and black moulding. The West wall houses the dresser and TV. I may paint a black background behind the TV to make it dissapear as much as possible.
The perfect scenario is to reupholster my existing bed with a hand-pick colorful vintage fabric. However, Covid19, the chances of that are slim. I have a few options at hand. The option A is to get lucky and find the perfect fabric online. Option B is to reupholster using an old embroidered silk duvet I have had for about 15 years. Or I can use it on the bed as bedding. And lastly, I have a mossy green velvet from a previous project that could be very pretty. The rest of the bedding will be kept fairly simple, besides accent pillows. The nightstands and dresser are vintage, and need to be elevated. I will touch up the flaws, embellish with unique hardware. It is possible that some may get replaced, but not likely. i would love a natural color furry wood rug. Hoping to find the perfect one online. I want to add modern back into the mix, and I think sculptural lamps will do the trick. There will be a a large mirror between the two doors. I have two mirrors to choose from and will need your help picking! I have collected quite a bit of treasury throughout the years and I intend on using these special accents throuhout the space.
Stay tuned for the excitement. The painting starts this weekend!
